According to the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, the total amount of incoming tourist traffic for the period from January to September 2018 amounted to 5.731 million foreign tourists, of which the majority came by air transport and 722.6 thousand — by cruise liners.
For the three quarters of the current year, 5.009 million people came by air in Dominican, which is 6.3% more compared to the same period in 2017. September showed a greater annual increase of foreign tourists in the country — 16.4%.
For the period from January to September 2018, the country hosted totally 382 cruise liners and 968,547 visitors. In September, the cruise tourist flow in annual terms grew by 89%.
As for the tourist flow from Russia, the Dominican Ministry of Tourism emphasized its stable positive dynamics: for the first 9 months of this year the total number of Russian tourists who arrived in the Dominican Republic is 148,835 thousand. In September 14,342 tourists from the Russian Federation arrived in the Dominican Republic by air, which is 8.4% more than in August.
According to the Central Bank of Dominicana, following the results of 3 quarters of 2018 the average amount of foreigners’ spending in terms for 1 tourist is 136.5 US dollars, which is 2.1% more than in 2017. The average duration of holiday of foreign tourists in January-September 2018 in the Dominican Republic is 8.4 nights.
