  • A modern view on the tourism industry

    The official statistics of the Federal Agency for Tourism shows a slight contraction of the outbound trips market in Russia (2014-2017). At the same time, 2019 should mark a record number of foreign tourists visiting Russia: according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, more than 30 million tourists are expected to visit Russia (including tourists from Europe and Asia).

    What key trends are expected in the Russian and global tourism market in the nearest future? What steps does the state take? What are the main tourism development lines? New tourist objects and routes on the map of Russia.

  • Landmark events and sport. Volunteer movements.

    Landmark sport events demand changes in approaches and stimulate industry development, opening new opportunities and destinations. So, according to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee forecast, 570,000 foreign tourists were expected to visit Russia. According to the ATOR data, there were about 700,000 foreign tourists. According to the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, there were even more tourists: during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, more than 1.8 million fan passports were issued (Fan ID), that allowed to enter Russia without a visa and stay in the country until 25 July 2018.

    How does the infrastructure created or improved for events affect tourism development in the regions? How can the Fan ID system and base be used for return visits, what bonuses may convince tourists to return (for example, simplified visa application)?

    A new trend in the landmark events is the consolidation of entertainment tracks within one festival. Sport has stepped beyond purely sporting events, now the combination of music and sport is becoming increasingly popular. If previously sport contained elements of music and entertainment, today music festivals are integrated into sport championships of regional and world level: beach volleyball, sailing regattas, extreme sport (skateboarding, BMX, wakeboarding, wake surfing, etc.), street sports, hero races, etc. What this trend is based on and how to forecast and use it in tourism?

    Volunteer movements. Best cases and practices (on the example of Sochi 2014, Formula 1 in Sochi, 2018 FIFA World Cup, World Student Games, and others).

    No significant event is not to be without volunteers. The growth of the volunteer movements was driven by the cult sports events. Volunteers come from all over the country and even from all over the world to take part and support the significant events. How the process of recruiting and training volunteers is organized? How to organize transportation and accommodation in the hosting cities? How the volunteer movement develops in Russia and Europe?

  • Territory marketing.

    How does the city promotion strategy change? What tools are the most effective now? How does the historical heritage promotion system work in the digital century? Region as a brand (on the example of Siberia).

    How the event tourism has been transformed? What is the effect of the private initiatives comparing with events supported by the state? Can we say that the future is in activities that bring emotional experience?
