Interview: Sri Lanka

OTDYKH Leisure team continues to work with partners and clients during the coronavirus crisis. We are undertaking a series of short interviews with the heads of international tourism boards on their experience, forecasts, recent updates and tips during forced isolation.

Sri Lanka has been a long-term participant of the OTDYKH Leisure exhibition. Every year the country chooses this event as an annual platform to meet business partners as well as to promote new products and services to the lucrative Russian outbound travel market. Russian tourists are traveling to Sri Lanka all year round, but especially during the winter season. Ms. Sasika Jayaweera, Assistant Director — Marketing, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, shared the latest tourism news in the interview conducted by our team.

How are you feeling today? In what format do you and your colleagues continue to work?

We are working on e roster basis since 1/3 of staff should be in a office for a day.

It’s important now not to cut off communication with partners and clients. How do you continue promoting your destination in a situation where borders are closed? Could you share a few tips

Currently no promotional activities are taking place but we have been bit flexible with visa extending situation for the foreigners who are in Sri Lanka and there is an information counter which operates 24 hours and 7 days

Forecasts are now made very carefully, but still... According to your assessment at this time, when do you expect tourist flow recovery, including from Russia?

We expect by end of next year (2021) things will be back to normal including Russia
