Noire at Spectrum on One in Dubai

The Fairmont Dubai’s award winning restaurant Spectrum on One has come up with a unique new dining concept. One of the hotel’s dining rooms has been blacked out so customers are in complete darkness — even being guided to their seats by waiters wearing night vision goggles. Diners have to tackle their dinner without being able to see a thing. “So many of our opinions of taste are influenced by how a dish is presented, even before we’ve taken a bite. Everybody eats partly with their eyes, so if you take away their vision they have to eat with their taste, smell and sound,” says Lorraine Sinclair, the restaurant’s executive chef.

Priced at AED 325, this exclusive 1 ½ hour Dubai dining experience includes a three course gourmet menu with paired beverages, and a reception to discuss the featured menu with the chef and restaurant manager. The evening is limited to 30 persons, to ensure an exclusive and personalized experience, and guests will be led to their table in a private restaurant setting that is cloaked in complete darkness, escorted by servers with night vision goggles.

Noire at Spectrum on One launches on Friday and will be available every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evening from 7.30pm until 10pm. starting on 6 September 2013.

Dubai Mall’s Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience

The October 10 event will put the spotlight on the city, underlining its credentials as a global style destination. On October 10, eight upcoming designers — Wadah Al Hajri from Qatar, Mohammad Ashi from Kuwait, Razan Alazzouni from Saudi Arabia, Lulwa Al Amin from Bahrain, Ituen Basi from Nigeria, Simone Rocha from Ireland, Andrea Incontri from Italy and Esme Vie from Russia — will come together to showcase their designs in Dubai Mall’s Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience.

Selected under Vogue Italia’s stringent international standards, the designers will present their collections from 6pm at The Fashion Catwalk, an event which will be screened across the mall’s multimedia displays to an expected audience of over 400,000 visitors.

Other events have been planned by the mall to coincide with the fashion experience, including an exhibition of 50 popular Vogue covers in the Grand Atrium and specially created window displays by participating stores.

Dubai, which is seeking to become a global fashion hub by 2020, recently announced a new mega fashion development, the Dubai Design District. To be operated by TECOM Investments, the project is aimed at becoming a full-service commercial hub for design industry-related organizations. The district will feature commercial and retail facilities for established and emerging designers, design institutes, waterfront promenade, a convention centre, event venues and related academic institutions.

You can see these and many other offers at a 400 sq. m Dubai exposition at OTDYKH/Leisure 2013 exhibition that will be running 17-20 September 2013.
