Dear friends and colleagues,
We are glad to participate in OTDYKH exhibition, which has already become a traditional event for the Ministry of Tourism of Dominican Republic. This year is very special for us: the Ministry of Tourism of Dominican Republic is pleased to be a Partner of the exhibition, and it is undoubtedly a great honour and responsibility for us.
During the year since the last OTDYKH-2014, the tourism sector has experienced significant and not always pleasant changes. Nevertheless, we continue to be optimistic about the future, and move ahead confidently.
In the period from January to June 2015 the Dominican Republic was visited by more than three million tourists, which is 7.3% more than the same period last year. The main strategy of the Ministry of Tourism continues to be the diversification of the regional and niche offer of the Dominican Republic. We pay much attention to the development of tourism infrastructure in the North, such as Puerto Plata and Samana. In October 2015 the largest cruise port in the Caribbean — Amber Cove will be opened in Puerto Plata. The Government of the Dominican Republic conducts an extensive programme to improve roads in most parts of the country, which greatly facilitates travelling between the resorts and the main attractions of the Dominican Republic.
